Closing Lines That Land the Interview

Your closing is the last impression. Done well, it sounds confident and inviting — never desperate or generic. Here are three closings that work and three that don't.

What works

  • 'I'd welcome the chance to discuss how my experience in X could support your goals for Y.'
  • 'I'd love to learn more about how this role fits into your team's roadmap — happy to share more in a quick call.'
  • 'Thank you for considering my application. I'm excited about the opportunity to contribute to [company].'

What to avoid

  • 'I look forward to hearing from you.' on its own — too passive
  • 'Please don't hesitate to contact me' — apologetic
  • 'Call me at your earliest convenience' — demanding

Why this matters

The advice in this guide is drawn from real recruiter conversations and analysis of what actually moves candidates forward. Apply it as a checklist on your next application.

Put it into practice

Don't try to apply everything at once. Pick the one or two changes that feel most relevant to your situation, ship the update, and measure the response over your next 10 applications.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating advice as universal — context always matters
  • Over-editing until your voice disappears
  • Skipping the proofread because you've read it 30 times
  • Forgetting that recruiters are people, not algorithms
